Soon, the group had decided to part ways on their new journey.
"So where are you heading?" Katren asked Tranesk.
"I'm just going to see my parents' graves. After that, well, I'll just see where the wind takes me." Tranesk replied. "How about you?"
"I'm just going to go back to my home village. Now that my task for the Shining Order is finished, I can rest." Katren said. "What are the rest of you going to do?"
"I'm gonna go back to The City, get back in the swing of things, take new jobs, that sort of thing." Farla said. "The Great One only knows what I've missed out there by now."
"I am going to research these gems. I know that I read something about them in my study, I just don't remember where."  Lintal said.
"I'm planning on the same thing as Tranesk; just see where the wind takes me. Pick up a good assassination job here and there, make some cash, and maybe even meet someone." Nerlos said.
"Well let's at least hope that we meet up again someday." Katren said. "Everyone, let's make a pact to meet up right on this spot, two years from now, and see how each-others' lives are going with these gems."
He put his hand in front of himself.
"Sure thing." Tranesk said, putting his hand on Katren's.
"I'll try to make it." Lintal said, adding to the stack.
"I wouldn't miss it for all the gold in the world." Farla said, joining in.
"How about you Nerlos, you in?" Katren asked.
"You know I am." She replied, finishing the stack of hands.
"Then it's official." Katren said. "Two years from now, we are going to meet up on this exact spot and catch up with each other."
"It's a deal." The others said in unison.
They broke the pile of hands.
"Well, this has been some insane adventure with you guys, but I've got a wife and son waiting for me. It's been great working with you. It's just sad we have to say goodbye." Katren said.
"Ah don't start going all sappy on us now, you blasted fool." Tranesk said. "That's Lintal's job."
"Hey, I wouldn't have to be 'sappy' as you say, if the event didn't call for it." Lintal retorted.
"Calm down, it's just a joke."
"A joke, you say?" Lintal asked. "If you haven't noticed, we were just given gems that control the elements, there is a massive shadowy dragon planning on taking over the world, and we have to split up just to keep these gems safe. Do you think that calls for one of you mindless jokes?"
"Well actually yes, everyone could use a good laugh here and there." Tranesk said.
"Ugh, I'm out of here. Goodbye, my friends, it has been nice knowing you." Lintal said, vanishing in a puff of smoke.
"I'm out of here too; my parents aren't getting any deader with me standing around." Tranesk said, running off into the distance, his heavy armor causing a massive racket.
"And I've gotta get back to the wife. She's probably worried sick about me by now." Katren said, walking away.
"Well I can easily hear The City calling to me; it sounds like something bad is happening." Farla said, leaping onto the side of the massive rock that marked the maze and leaping further away.
"And then there was one." Nerlos said to herself. "I hope Mom and Dad will take me back after leaving like I did."
She slowly walked off into the sunset talking to herself, wondering about what life would be like without the task they had been given.
And so, the five adventurers part ways. The next parts will be the stories of what happened to each of our brave warriors after they received the Gems of the Elements.
